Gear Carsomyr, longsword

Carsomyr: This +2 cold iron longsword contains great and terrible power, sealed with the blood of a holy and righteous warrior. When wielded by a paladin member of Julius’s family it becomes a +5 holy cold iron longsword. The wielder is under the effects of holy aura while in possession of the weapon, and retains the benefits for twenty-four hours after it leaves his presence. This grants a +4 deflection bonus to AC and +4 resistance bonus to all saves which apply to all attacks, not just those by evil creatures. The Carosmyr also grants SR 25 versus spells with the evil descriptor and any spell cast by an evil being. The user receives the same protection against possession and mental influence as is provided by protection from evil. Lastly, whenever an evil creature successfully attacks the wielder they become blinded (Fortitude negates, as blindness/deafness but with holy aura’s save DC).

Ex-Paladin Julius is no longer lawful good, and has no access to paladin spells, class features, and may no longer advance further in paladin levels. To regain his abilities and advancement potential, he needs to return to the proper alignment and make amends for abandoning his beliefs.

A native of Aglarond, Julius was chosen by Lathander at a young age as a champion of justice. He became a part of an adventuring party to defeat a threat to his homeland, after which he traveled the stars with companions from many different planets. After he retired, Julius trained his son to follow in his footsteps. However, the dark influence of a child he and his companions rescued from the Abyss caused his son to turn away from the path of good. Since then Julius has become a bitter old man.

Update: Aldrin’s words helped put cracks in the man’s hard exterior, and eventually he gave into the pressure of his daughter to visit Queen Adalyn. When he returned, it seemed as if many years had been lifted from his shoulders, and he happily saw Aldrin and Eirwyn wed. It did not last though, as the late arrival of Marcus saw the joyous event turn to bloodshed. Thought to be disabled and dying, Julius rushed to Marcus’s side when he heard his son claim he was unable to resist Haliex’s power. The deception cost Julius his life, as Marcus tore his father’s head off and departed laughing at the foolishness of old men.
